Supporting Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology Research Potential in Western Greece

Our research team is in the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management of the University of Ioannina, Greece.

Our department is based in the Agrinio campus in the perfecture of Etoloakarnania located in the Western part of Greece. Western Greece is a large and mostly agricultural region. The Etoloakarnanian perfecture and the region of Western Greece, in general, can not use and exploit scientific information thus humbling the region in its quest for bio-economy.

Support of our team by: (a) reinforcing our scientific and technological potential (b) supporting and mobilising our human and material resources and 9c) by developing twinning with established research groups, will improve our research capacities, disseminate the scientific information and research results, and also improve the socio-economic needs of the region and the country.

We do believe that focusing on life sciences and biotechnology will enable the development of improved crops and forest resources.

At the same time, the exploitation and sustainable use of biodiversity will enable our region and country to put the foundations for implementing relevant strategies for the development of bio-economy.
